Thanksgiving

We have so much to be thankful for! While acknowledging it can be tempting to retreat into depression when someone we love is facing a trial like cancer, our family has witnessed so many little miracles along the way that we are compelled to give thanks to the Lord.  And today seems like the most appropriate day to ruminate on it all...

  • The unaccountable peace we felt when Mom was first diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
  • The referral Mom got to Dr. Lee, who immediately fit her in for surgery.
  • The fact that Dr. Lee is a gynecological oncologist and was able to complete the surgery even though it was much more extensive than originally planned (she told us a general surgeon would have closed Mom up as "inoperable").
  • That Dr. Newton, the colo-rectal surgeon, was available to assist Dr. Lee with the colon complications during the surgery.
  • That just four days after Mom's ICU setback, when we were told several times that life support might be necessary, she was well enough to be sent home (and was actually sent home on the fifth day after the setback).
  • That just a week after that ICU setback, Mom was out shopping at Costco with her sisters and Lindsay.
  • That her colon, which the doctors were so worried about after the extensive surgery, is healing and working great.
  • That we have so many family and friends who have come to help, sent meals, flowers, and treats, and called or written encouragement.
  • That our kids keep every day joyful: "Where's Mimi's belly button?" "At the Doctor's office!"
  • That our family enjoys a sense of humor..."The colo-rectal surgeon is...anal!"...Dad tagging Mom in the car after her diagnosis: "Tag, you're it."
  • That Mom is young and strong enough to be given the more aggressive form of chemo that has much better results than the basic chemo treatment.
  • That Mom is emotionally and physically ready for the battle.
We praise God for all His goodness in the midst of a trial.  He is so good.

"Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."
1 Thessalonians 5:16-18

We are still praying for you, Carla! Grateful for the updates! I am just now reading this last blog entry. What a blessing your family is; I don't know if I was supposed to laugh, but I couldn't help it!
I am sorry you have to go through this, but you are already teaching, encouraging, and ministering to people as you do! We will keep checking so we know exactly how to pray for you!
Your friend in Christ,
Ellen Forrester
You will keep him in perfect peace,
