Chemo Plan, posted by Brad
After a port was installed on Wednesday, Carla's visited with the nurse for her "chemo ed" session on Friday. The plan is to have six three-week cycles starting December 15. It sounded like déjà vu to me. She will have very similar symptoms and potential problems. They gave Carla a cap that says, "No hair day." She will start losing her hair 10 to 14 days after chemo starts. She will feel good the day of and day after chemo. She will feel the worse days 3, 4 and 5. Her immune system will be the least resistant days 10 to 14. She only has chemo one day each three-week cycle and no shots of Neulasta or Neupogen unless the lab work indicates she needs them. She will take two types of chemo, Carboplatin and Paclitaxel, which will take 5 to 6 hours to administer. Because there is limited seating, no one is allowed to sit with Carla as the chemo is administered, although people can come for brief visits or to bring food.
