hello family.....carla is sleeping right now .....when bill and i got here, we talked with her a bit, and she was her usual funny carla-self....gave her a little ice, then she drifted off to sleep.....she is getting a pint of blood right now......she will be getting one of her IVs out in a little bit.....it's the IV in her right arm that goes into the artery (instead of the vein, like usual).....it's been giving them constant monitoring of her blood pressure, but now, they'll just monitor it the old-fashioned way by the arm cuff that automatically inflates evey once in a while and gives a reading.....
one of the doctors who is in the group with the colon/rectal surgeon (Dr Strobos) just came in and looked at her tummy......said all is well....




carla is still having a good morning......in and out of sleeping, taking ice chips and water.....they are givng her magnesium and calcium in her iv central line.....both arm IVs are out now, so the only remaining one is the central IV line up by her clavicle...... they brought an ultrasound machine in to just do a quick check on the kidneys to make sure they are behaving......everything looks good....dr christine lee came in briefly, spoke to carla, bill and i and said that she's doing good......carla expressed to dr lee that she felt so sorry for all the people who were lined up and ready for their surgery on friday, but were bumped because carla's surgery was almost 8 hours.....dr lee laughed and told her she needed to think about HERSELF!!......i then tattled on carla and told the doctor that carla had just told me and bill that "we surely must be bored"......we all laughed, carla too.....we all fussed at her and said stop worrying about everybody else, you silly goose!.....the doctor is please with her progress.....they are giving her some Lasix to improve her output.......she will be receiving another unit of blood later today.....they want her to sit up in a chair two times today.....
things are going well......carla said now that her IVs are out of her arms, she can do cartwheels..... (but she couldn't do one in the last 58 years....haha).....another funny: when she woke up from one of her mini-naps, she said she was dreaming that she had invested in a stock and it went up 75%......i asked her if maybe it was 75 cents instead......she liked her version of the dream better.....
more later......she's doing great and feeling better than yesterday....




carla has been sitting in an upright position in a comfy recliner chair for about 45 minutes now.....no pain and she's feeling good!.....she brushed her teeth and we've been chit-chatting about this n' that.....when she first sat in the chair, she made a comment about being a queen, and i made a sassy comment about "uh, queen, you've got a little something in your nose" (which is the nasogastric tube)"..... i can be as funny as her......all is well.....they are about to give her the second unit of blood and it should be the last for the day.....oh, and btw, the lasix is really working well, output is greatly improved....yay!.....
